PPL(A) course

PPL(A) course

Phases: 3

Our PPL(A) course is designed for aspiring pilots who want to gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to fly a single-engine aircraft safely and independently — all under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), for non-commercial purposes only.

At Egnatia Aviation, we go beyond technical training. We focus on developing the essential non-technical skills and the right mindset that today’s pilots need — such as decision-making, situational awareness, and communication.
This is your foundation for a future in aviation — whether you’re pursuing flying as a hobby or planning to progress toward a professional pilot career.

To enroll in the Private Pilot License course at Egnatia Aviation, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum Age: Be at least 17 years old by the time of course completion.
  • First Solo Flight Eligibility: Be at least 16 years old before completing your first solo flight.
  • English Language Proficiency: Hold a minimum ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 4 to ensure effective communication and understanding. An EASA-approved ELP assessment is included as part of the EASA PPL(A) course for all candidates. Note: For your safety and training success, Egnatia Aviation may not admit students who demonstrate difficulties with English comprehension or communication.
  • Medical Fitness: Obtain an EASA Class II Medical Certificate before starting any flight training.

The PPL(A) training comprises the following components:

  • PPL theory
  • PPL long briefings
  • 45 total flight hours

PPL theory

The PPL(A) theory course consists of 9 subjects which are delivered through a self-study format (Padpilot), giving you the freedom to learn at your own pace, from anywhere in the world.

You’ll access high-quality training materials through our interactive online platform, designed to help you prepare efficiently and effectively.
Students are only required to attend in person at Egnatia Aviation for:

  • Revision sessions
  • Internal assessments
  • Final exams

A minimum of 150 hours of self-study is expected to ensure you’re fully prepared to meet EASA standards.

PPL long briefings

Before taking to the skies, students participate in focused ground training sessions designed to prepare them for all key aspects of flight training.

These sessions cover essential topics such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), aircraft systems and familiarization, radio communications, circuit flying procedures and more.

The goal is to ensure every student gains the knowledge and confidence needed to begin flight training safely and successfully.

Attending the PPL long briefings is mandatory before starting the flight training. PPL long briefings are scheduled on specific dates.

PPL flight training

Minimum requirements are 45 hours of flight training of which:

  • 31.5 hours dual training in a single-engine aircraft, including 3 hours of simulator training.
  • 13.5 hours solo flight, including 6.5 hours of cross-country navigation.

  • Flexible Online Theory Training: Complete your ground school theory through a modern self-study platform, with in-person attendance only for revision and exams.
